Italy travel: Florence to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast Italy travel: Florence to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, bus passages. This was the LONG drive from Florence to Sorrento, passing Rome and one photo op after another. Our Perillo Tours Familia tried to take photos of all the beautiful 'picture perfect' Italian hillside towns, but the bus just kept on rolling. Why were those towns built on top of hills? Well, Tony said is was to defend against barbarians: it's easier to throw stones down, instead of up! (1:54) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments |

Italy travel: to Amalfi Coast via Naples Italy travel: Amalfi Coast via Naples, from the bus. Lots of hanging laundry! Seaport of Naples. The "Sand Castle" building. Clearly, Naples would have been worth much more time than just a quick drive-thru on the way to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Naples shipyard shows in the last segment of this video, as Tony our Perillo Tours guide gives lots of great details. (4:10) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments |

Italy travel: Amalfi Coast Sorrento introduction Italy travel: Amalfi Coast introduction to Sorrento. At the time this video was obtained, our Perillo Tours Familia thought these hillside towns looked amazing. Little did we know that there were much more amazing sites to com! "If you get nervous about our cliffside drive, do like our driver Lorenzo does, just close your eyes!" LOL! All footage is from the bus, so it's not National Geographic quality, but you get the feel for the place. (2:53) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments |

Italy travel: Amalfi Coast Sorrento first views Italy travel: Amalfi Coast. Our first beautiful views of Sorrento, Italy. Most of our Perillo Tours Familia does the 'camera salute' again, like in Venice. A much nicer hotel room at the Hotel La Pace, and a nice zoom lens view back on to the road we just traveled on our drive to Sorrento from Naples. (2:20) Send this video to a friend. Italy travel: Amalfi Coast Sorrento first views slideshow Our Perillo Tours familia shows in the video in the middle of this slideshow. This series of pictures is an accumulation of sights seen in and around the hotel, and at dinners. We pass orange and lemon trees on the way to the hotel, and on our way out of Sorrento, we stopped at an inlaid wood shop. It was a very good time in Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast! Italy travel: Amalfi Coast Sorrento's Hotel La Pace Italy travel: Amalfi Coast. Sorrento's five star Hotel La Pace, probably the second nicest hotel our Perillo Tours Familia stayed at during our tour of Italy. More views of the beautiful lobby. Then, after sitting in the bus all day on our drive from Florence, the kids needed to stretch their legs a bit. Here is presented our Relay Races, footage only parents will appreciate (and probably only the parents of the children involved). We had a good time! (3:17) Send this video to a friend. Italy travel: Amalfi Coast. Our Perillo Tours group picture! Italy travel: Amalfi Coast. Our Perillo Tours Familia group picture! We've got David to thank for the actual picture, but here's the 20 second documentary: "The Making of our Perillo Tours Familia Group Picture!" Then, let's eat! After dinner, the kid's legs still needed more stretching after that long bus ride from Florence. They lead us on a walk which seemed mostly to be in the dark. It didn't seem so dark in person when we were looking at the empty (?) Hotel La Pace pool, further proof that the camera does not see what the eye sees. Frankly, this 60 seconds could have been edited out, but it's fun for us to try to figure out what we were doing just based on the audio cues. We had fun! (2:19) Send this video to a friend. Italy travel: Beginning Amalfi Coast drive Italy travel: Amalfi Coast beginning our drive. Here we stop outside Positano, where our hired taxi driver/tour guide (also named Tony, like our main Perillo Tours guide) gives us a local person's perspective. Tony knew which turnouts on the drive had the best views of the Amalfi Coast. He also knew which turnouts might contain the previous evening's alcoholic and post-coital refuse (inappropriate for our G-rated crowd). Tony was good! Besides being very informative, his accent was just a pleasure to listen to. Sorry the end of the tape came so suddenly, but this five minute segment gives you a good idea of what it's like to drive on Italy's famous Amalfi Coast. We had fun! Italy travel: Positano slideshow This is probably the best slideshow of our Perillo Tours trip to Italy. The subject matter just begged to be photographed! It is easily seen how Positano and the entire Amalfi Coast region of Italy are such popular tourist destinations. We had fun! (3:15) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments copyleft |

Italy travel: Positano, on the Amalfi Coast Italy travel: Positano, on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. This location was high on our list of things to see in Italy. Our Perillo Tours optional trip to the Isle of Capri was a bit expensive for the six of us, but even if it was included, we would still have opted for our trip to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Tony the Taxicab driver / Tourguide negotiated some wonderful seasonings for us; a small dash of bruschetta on your tongue tasted like a pizza exploded in your mouth. Very tasty! Then Tony easily negotiated a "two way street", a passage barely big enough to be considered a sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan. (4:02) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments |

Italy travel: Mini Amalfi Coast display outside Positano Italy travel: Amalfi Coast in miniature outside Positano. The Perillo Tours bus would not fit down these curvy roads, but Tony's cab allowed us to stop at unexpected surprises. At various locations along the Amalfi Coast, there are charming and unique "mini Amalfi Coast" displays. This particular display "would make a great place to set up Army guys" according to Sebastian. In Positano, we stop at a delightful restaurant / library / art gallery where we were given a complimentary espresso even though we just stopped so the kids could use the rest room. If their food is anywhere near as good as their decor, this place is certainly worth the trip. Next time you're in Positano, Italy, visit Max, the Ristorante / Art Gallery / Wine Bar located at Via dei Muline 22, 84017 Positano (SA), Italy, tel +39 089 875 056. Their web site has a nice 360 degree virtual tour of their place: visit www.RistoranteMax.it. (1:51) Send this video to a friend. Leave/View Comments |
