Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Church with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Church with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Square, this time from the Pope's point of view! Look at the size of the outer supporting columns of this magnificent structure as compared to the humans at the base. Then, our Perillo Tours Familia explores the inside of St. Peter's Church, which fortunately did allow video and photography. We see a few of the faithful exiting St. Peter's Church in this video segment. Every face tells a story! (2:23)

Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Church, Michaelangelo's Pieta with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Church, Michaelangelo's Pieta with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome, inside St. Peter's Church, gazing upon Michaelangelo's Pieta, one of the masterpieces created when he was young. This statue is basically life sized, as opposed to most of the other super sized monuments our Perillo Tours Familia has been exposed to on this trip. Maybe it was that simple contrast that made this statue so special. Then, the video shows cathedral cupola inside cupola, and more giant sized awesomely impressive statues, artwork and architecture inside St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. (1:13)

Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica is the largest church in the world. This one long piece of video tape attempts to do the impossible task of giving the viewer some perspective. Popes are interred here too, although the tape did not record who this one was. Our Perillo Tours Familia takes the grand tour. (2:12)

Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica continued, with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica continued, with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica is so large, it's difficult for the video camera to translate the magnitude of the place. For some perspective, the big gold letters towards the top of the church are eight feet tall. Our Perillo Tours Familia continues the grand tour. (2:31)

Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica artwork with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica artwork with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica was full of magnificent art work in stone and on canvas. The main walkway right down the middle of the church was cordoned off. This gave our Perillo Tours Familia an opportunity to see the inlaid tiles on the floor. The different stones wear at different rates; the video has a hard time showing the path unevenly worn by the shuffle of millions of feet over the centuries. (3:02)

Italy travel: St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Colosseum slideshow with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Colosseum slideshow with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome. St. Peter's Basilica and the Roman Colosseum slideshow. Two places where pictures just start to tell the story are St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world, and the Flavian Amphitheater, otherwise known as the Roman Colosseum. In this video, the camera tries to show the views not seen on postcards (we've all seen them!). (8:25)

Italy travel: Rome, one landmark after another with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome, one landmark after another with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome, back on the Perillo Tours bus. This video shows one landmark after another, including a 2,000 year old apartment building. Two staircases to the Senatorial Palace, one designed by Michaelangelo. The wedding cake/typewriter monument to King Victor Emanuele II. Trajan's Market. The Roman Forum. Of course each place would have been worth thorough exploration, but we were happy to sit and be given an overview tour. (5:43)

Italy travel: Rome, the Flavian Amphitheater, otherwise known as the Roman Colosseum. Very convenient for Perillo Tours to drop us off right next to the Colosseum, and to bypass the ticket line! This video is just the beginning of our tour of the Colosseum. (2:34)

Italy travel: Rome, the Colosseum arches with Perillo Tours of Italy Italy travel: Rome, the Colosseum arches with Perillo Tours of Italy
Italy travel: Rome, the Colosseum. This video begins our walking tour of the Colosseum. After a brief stop thru security, we walk under the supports of this huge amphitheater. You never see video of the supporting structure of the Colosseum. Naturally, these 2,000 year old arches had to be pretty massive to hold 45,000 to 50,000 spectators. Our Perillo Tours guide gives us an excellent introduction to the Colosseum. (1:44)

Italy travel: Entry to the Roman Colosseum amphitheater along with all the others tourists. Again, perspective fails in the video, but that doesn't stop us from trying! Our Perillo Tours Familia takes as many pictures as possible - every different vantage point gives a new opportunity. (2:45)
